EHRI-ERIC Research and Content Officer - NIOD
Vacancy: Research and Content Officer (0.8 – 1.0 FTE)
EHRI-ERIC is looking for a committed and strategically minded Research and Content Officer to help shape its scientific direction, content, and user services. This is a key scientific position at the EHRI-ERIC Central Hub, hosted by the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Amsterdam, an institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). All employees of EHRI-ERIC are employed by NIOD-KNAW and seconded to EHRI-ERIC.
What will you do?
- Develop and implement EHRI-ERIC’s scientific strategy
- Monitor trends in the research landscape of Holocaust studies
- Coordinate and provide editorial oversight of EHRI-ERIC’s online content
- Contribute to events, working groups, policy, strategy and planning documents, and publications
- Support and co-author external funding proposals
- Represent EHRI-ERIC in networks, expert meetings, and committees
- Support the monitoring of EHRI-ERIC’s scientific and social-economic impact
- Provide cover for colleagues when needed
What do you bring?
- PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field
- Strong knowledge of current issues and trends in Holocaust research and documentation
- Good knowledge of one or several of the following fields: digital history/digital humanities; archival sciences; research infrastructures; open science paradigm
- Experience in one or several of the following areas: providing editorial oversight of online content, strategy development; developing funding applications.
- Excellent communication skills in English; Dutch is a plus
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international environment
- Willingness to travel abroad
- Affinity with EHRI-ERIC’s mission

About EHRI-ERIC
On 20 January 2025, the European Commission established the European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI) as a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC). EHRI-ERIC is a permanent, distributed Research Infrastructure dedicated to support trans-national Holocaust research and documentation. EHRI-ERIC is currently supported by ten member countries and by a consortium of more than 40 individual institutions. The Central Hub of EHRI-ERIC takes care of the legal, administrative and financial running of EHRI-ERIC, the coordination of the provision of EHRI-ERIC’s user services, and the development of its overall strategies and policies. EHRI-ERIC is a permanent independent successor organisation to a series of successful EC-funded European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI) projects that have been running since 2010 and have brought together most important Holocaust research institutions and archives from across Europe, Israel and the United States.
About NIOD
The NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies was founded on 8 May 1945 to map out the history of the Second World War in the Netherlands and the Dutch East Indies through independent research. During the past decades this expertise has been extended to research into mass violence and genocides in Europe and elsewhere in the world. The NIOD is a scientifically independent and at the same time strongly socially oriented institute.
Apart from scientific research, NIOD opens its collections to both professionals and private individuals. NIOD is located in a monumental building of the Dutch Government Property Department in the centre of Amsterdam. It manages in-house 3 kilometres of archives, a library with 75,000 titles and a large photo collection. NIOD has about 75 employees. It is one of the 15 institutes of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences (KNAW). The Communication and Information team is responsible for internal and external communication and public activities, spokesperson management and the management of NIOD's online and social media.
Terms of employment
Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is 4.537 and the maximum salary is 6.209 gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale 11 cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP.

For example, by working an extra two hours a week, it is possible to increase the number of days off from 29 to 41 days a year (with full-time employment).
