Projectmedewerker XML-redactie - Huygens - Amsterdam
The research group Digital Editions is looking for a temporary employee with XML experience for a project concerning the creation of digital editions of correspondences of Dutch artists.
What will you do?
The research group Digital Editions of the Huygens Institute in Amsterdam creates digital editions of Dutch historical and cultural heritage. For example, the institute has created a digital edition of part of Piet Mondrian's letters in collaboration with the RKD, and of Vincent van Gogh's correspondence in collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum. In this project we realize multiple digital editions of artists' letters in a sustainable, connected, enriched and generalizable way through an elaborated data model in XML TEI (Text Encoding Initiative).
You will work closely with researchers from Huygens Institute, RKD and Van Gogh Museum and with software engineers from Team Text (Digital Infrastructure Department of the HuC Amsterdam). Your task will be to support the researchers in the field of XML-TEI. The job ideally starts on April 1, 2025 and offers an appointment of 0.5-0.7 fte for 16 months.
What do you bring?
Knowledge, skills and experience required:
- A completed academic degree and/or relevant work experience in the field of digital editions
- Knowledge of and experience working with XML and preferably TEI
- Ability to work independently and accurately
It is highly recommended if you have:
- Good communication skills (in English, knowledge of Dutch is a plus)
- Can function well in a team
- The ability to take the lead in organizing meetings
- Knowledge of and affinity with Open Access and FAIR principles for Open Science
- Good ability to deal with deadlines

Terms of employment
Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is 3.378 and the maximum salary is 5.331 gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale 10 cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP.

For example, by working an extra two hours a week, it is possible to increase the number of days off from 29 to 41 days a year (with full-time employment).
