Job Vacancy: Research Assistant (SA)

Duration: February - April (3 months, 2 days per week)

Rebeca Ibáñez Martín is currently seeking a Research Assistant to collaborate on her project, 'Navigating Toxicity.'

Project Overview: The project aims to construct a case study centered around greenhouses toxicities. Specifically, it will explore the sensorial practices employed to navigate toxicity and pollution by workers and residents in and around greenhouses.


  1. Assist in the development and execution of the case study.
  2. Conduct literature reviews relevant to greenhouse toxicities.
  3. Collect and analyze data related to sensorial practices.
  4. Helping in preparing interviews and transcribing


  1. Bachelor or master student in a related field (preferably environmental humanities, sociology, or anthropology).
  2. Strong research skills and familiarity with qualitative research methods.
  3. Proficiency in Dutch is highly valuable
  4. Availability to commit 2 days per week from February to April.



About Meertens
The Meertens Institute, together with the International Institute of Social History and the Huygens ING, is part of the KNAW Humanities Cluster. This is a partnership in which research in the humanities (history, ethnology, literature, linguistics) is carried out using advanced methods, in which computer science plays an important role. 
The Meertens Institute is a national institute for research and documentation of the Dutch language and culture, and language and culture in the Netherlands. It consists of the research groups Ethnology and Variational Linguistics, both of which hold leading positions in international research on everyday language and culture.


Terms of employment
Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is 2.618 and the maximum salary is 2.846 gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale SA cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP.
