Protein Facility Lead Scientist

We are looking for an experienced biochemist to run the Protein Facility within the Hubrecht Institute.  The Protein Facility was launched in 2021 to support Hubrecht research groups with a variety of protein-related projects including protein purification, characterization and biochemical assay development. The successful candidate will work within the laboratories of Prof. Puck Knipscheer and Dr. Francesca Mattiroli, with access to state-of-the-art biochemical equipment and expertise. Initial onboarding will be done with expert personnel. An important aspect of the position is the clear and goal-oriented communication with scientists from diverse research areas within the Institute.

The successful candidate will express and purify proteins from different systems (bacteria, yeast and insect cells), perform quality control procedures and protein characterization, design new tools based on the users’ needs (e.g. set up new protocols, devise new analyses strategies), and advice and/or teach users. Critical skills involve the systematic documentation of the lab procedures, proper planning, and independence. An enthusiastic and constructive work attitude, with good communication skills is a prerequisite.

The position is open to candidates with MSc or HBO degrees. However, candidates with a PhD are strongly encouraged to apply, due to the ambitious and challenging nature of the projects. Established experience in biochemistry is required.
