Technician - Hubrecht Institute - Utrecht

Location: Utrecht
Max hours per week: 38,00
Max salary: €3.636
Duration of agreement: 1 year (extension after positive evaluation)
Apply until: 01/15/2024

The Sahtoe lab at the Hubrecht Institute is looking for a full time highly motivated research technician for one year with possibility for extension based on merit. The Sahtoe group uses protein design approaches to create new protein tools for synthetic biology applications and to understand the fundamental biology of epigenetics and allosteric protein regulation.

As a key member of the lab, you will maintain and streamline the organization of the lab. In addition, you will perform wet lab experiments in relation to expression, purification and in vitro characterization of computationally designed proteins. You will use techniques such as recombinant protein expression in E.coli, molecular cloning, immobilized metal affinity chromatography (IMAC), size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and biolayer interferometry (BLI) to measure the interactions between biomolecules and will work closely together in a team with PhD students and Postdocs. Depending on (programming) skills and interests, there is also the possibility to learn how to design novel proteins under supervision of more experienced lab members.

Requirements:

You have completed a HLO (or equivalent) program, or a MSc program in Life Sciences or related sciences, and are proficient in English. Strong social/communication skills and a collaborative team spirit are vital. Experience with recombinant protein expression in E.coli, cloning, IMAC, SEC and BLI is a pre but is not absolutely required. However, willingness to learn and master these techniques is required. Experience with mammalian cell culture and/or basic programming/bioinformatics is not required but would be advantageous.
