The Hubrecht Institute invites applications for a tenure-track group leader position. We are interested in candidates with curiosity-driven, innovative research plans in the domain of molecular and developmental biology (or connected domains) that can synergize with ongoing research in the institute. The Institute
The Hubrecht Institute, a research institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), is dedicated to fundamental research in the broader domain of molecular and developmental biology. The institute has a diverse team of 20 group leaders at all career stages who excel in tackling questions on life’s fundamental processes in a multi-disciplinary way, using transformative technologies. The institute is affiliated with the University Medical Centre Utrecht (UMC Utrecht) and has a partnership with the EMBL. The Hubrecht Institute is located at the Utrecht Science Park in the Netherlands.
Research environment
The Hubrecht institute is a world-class research institute (see our recent international evaluation report and review) with an international and vibrant scientific community. It promotes curiosity-driven research and technological innovations in an open, collaborative atmosphere, which is stimulated by a non-hierarchical organization. The research is supported by various expert support teams and by state-of-the-art facilities for bioimaging, flow cytometry, single-cell sequencing, animal husbandry, protein production and histology. The institute does not have a teaching assignment, but options are available through Utrecht University and the research school ‘Cancer, Stem Cells and Developmental Biology’, in which the Hubrecht Institute has a central role.

We are looking for
Scientists who are ready to lead a research group at the Hubrecht Institute with full scientific independence. The core science domain of the institute is molecular and developmental biology, but we welcome scientists from all science domains whose research may contribute to understanding the core principles of life. Your research group will contribute to and/or complement the overall goal of the Hubrecht Institute to strengthen its unique position nationally and internationally as a center of excellence. You will uphold the highest standards of quality and integrity, and you will promote inclusivity, diversity, and safety.

The selection process will involve a 45-minute online interview in the first half of December (details to be communicated to selected applicants at the end of November), and a recruitment symposium on 6+7 February 2025.
Terms of employment
Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is €5.441 and the maximum salary is €6.986 gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale 12 cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP.
The KNAW offers its staff an excellent package of secondary benefits. A package that meets the different needs of employees depending on their stage of life, lifestyle or career ambitions. For example, by working an extra two hours a week, it is possible to increase the number of days off from 29 to 41 days a year (with full-time employment).
