WORKING FOR THE ACADEMY

The Academy is both a learned society and an organisation of national research institutes. The institute organisation consists of ten institutes where scientific research is carried out and three institutes that offer an infrastructure for scientific research. The Academy employs approximately 1,300 staff.

The institutes are active in the humanities, the social sciences and the life sciences. The research subjects range from the history of the Second World War to stem cells, from the phenomenon of sleep to demographics, and from the Great Tit population to medieval manuscripts. The Academy institutes play a leading role in Dutch research. They serve as national centres of expertise and manage and provide access to unique infrastructures and world-famous collections.
